Responsive Design for Here, and There

By: Connor Elkins

In this day and age, it is key to have websites that are compatible with mobile platforms such as iPhones. An unresponsive design is a pain to navigate on mobile browsers, and can really turn traffic away from the site.

image imageIn a responsive web design article on A List a Part, they compare responsive design to architecture. With new types of architecture, people can make parts of a building change in order to “respond” to something. That’s basically the same with websites today.

Another article on designmoto explains that not everything is perfect with responsive design. Some people just have outdated browser that can make the page a mess, and it changes the experience that people will have with the site. Experience is something to think to think about when designing.

A final article from htmlgoodies showcases an actual design layout to what an actual reponsive design looks like in practice. Everything gets reworked into a different form to accommodate a mobile need.

I agree! Especially in this day-in-age, If your website is unresponsive you can turn people away so quickly. We’ve become spoiled with crazy fast internet for years now and we are automatically attracted to visually appealing things. If something doesn’t look right or its hard to navigate, you’ll lose people fast and that effects your web traffic.

You could not be more right. People in our generation are looking for fast and easy access for websites. Because of how fast technology is moving it is creating our consumers to be impatient. Any flaw, like not using the appropriate responsive wed design, we can lose our users. It is important for leaders in our industry to show the importance of having to adapt to different web browsers.

I agree with you about the importance of mobile compatibility. When we first discussed this in class I was not aware of how many sites are not compatible on a mobile device. Now I understand how much more effect it takes for it to work properly on a mobile device or something other than a desktop screen.

I really enjoyed that you used slightly different images from other people in this post. Love that it showed how mobile compatibility is crucial to fitting the screen.
